nBut what even is this place anymore? Over 20 years ago, in 2003, I started messing with some of the sample web pages included with Mac OS 9's built-in web server. Eventually that turned into Catserver, which eventually turned into Nebula 9, and finally into Nebula Core.
At one time, building this site was a hobby that occupied a fair amount of my free time. The current version of Nebula Core was born of the aspiration to become a self-taught coder, and break into that industry after a decade of working in A/V. I was really proud of what I built here, and there are still so many features under to hood that you all never got to enjoy. But when I moved on from that dream and settled into my current career, my interests shifted more towards automation, integration, and networking. Nebula Core was less core, and more "yep, the web page is still being served. Everything's good!"
Because of all that, I've ceased trying to make this place a thing, so to speak. People who know me personally will remember when I pressured them to use their Nebula Core accounts, post comments, upload images, share files, and even contribute content from time to time (remember when we had an exclusive web comic? No...?). Now it simply exists as an archive of all those years of tinkering, learning, and making promises to myself (and you all) about the future of this place, only to let time go by without updates over and over again.
So, what am I saying? Is Nebula Core done? Was 20+ years of Catserver enough? Is it time to move on? No, of course not, dummy! But I'm not making any promises of future changes or updates. While my home lab has grown and Nebula is doing more work for me than ever before, the user-facing side of it all is strictly for my own enjoyment. You aren't likely to see much happen here. Nebula Core is never over, though. This project is never done. There will always be more.
You just might be living in a martian habitat by the time I post another significant update...
